Our Parish Council agreed to reach out to the local community for the Christmas Season and set funds aside for this outreach. The AWF was asked to manage the process. We were able to hand over individual items of foodstuffs to Khanyisa Soup Kitchen to assist them in reaching their goal of 120 food parcels for the local community who are fed by them each week. We were also able to hand over a large selection of items on the Edenvale Care Centre Hospice’s wish list and these were gratefully received.
The AWF decided to reach out to Compass in Edenvale, a haven for Abused Women and Children. This haven is being upgraded and there is only one family living there at the moment. We were able to give each child a parcel with an outfit of clothing plus sweets and the family received a parcel of goodies to enjoy on Christmas Day along with a magnificent chocolate cake. Thanks to all who donated towards this outreach.
The Winter Warmth collection was collected by from St Chad’s on Monday 15th June and the clothing was subsequently sorted into five lots and distributed to the following five outstations in Mayflower:
St Mary’s Daggakraal
Amersfoort Outstation (Layminister Victoria Msibi)
Holy Cross in Vukuzakhe
Perdekop (Fr Hugh batha)
St Stephen’s eSizameleni.
The crockery was given to the St Stephen’s Youth Group to sell as a fund raising effort to buy food for the poor.
The baby items, blankets, beanies, jerseys and especially the prem beanies, were given to persons who looks after the babies in the baby wards and at the clinics.
